This two-day peer support training program covers a variety of important topics pertaining to promoting mental health within your department. An overview of symptoms of stress, PTSD, depression, and anxiety will be covered and an introduction to and development of active listening strategies, non-verbal communication skills, and crisis intervention strategies will be established. Members will learn how to build rapport with your fellow first responders both on and off the job as well as how to identify local mental health resources. Information about VFRSS’s peer support team will be presented along with information regarding how to establish your own peer support program within your department.
