ATTENTION FAUQUIER STUDENTS: If you fail to attend this course after registering, your individual fire rescue company will be responsible for the $200.00 course fee per the Special Operations group.
Course Description:
Includes classroom and practical hands-on training. Students learn to select the appropriate line system for the situation, establish and operate the system, effect the rescue or recovery, and to tear down the system. Subjects include line and hardware equipment, knots, and advanced line systems techniques. This course meets or exceeds NFPA 1670 Technician-level guidelines. Course Overview Video
Special Note: Students enrolled in swift water programs must be prepared to engage in strenuous activities in extreme weather and water conditions. If a student has a known medical condition that could foreseeably jeopardize his/her safety during participation or be aggravated by participation, the student should not participate.
The program is designed to train fire, rescue, police, park and other emergency services personnel. The minimum age for attending any water rescue course is 18 years-of-age.
Swiftwater operations is a prerequisite for this course, and only a PA WRER or Rescue 3 operations level course will be accepted.
This course and will include a swim test (Swim 200 yards without a personal floating device in 12 minutes or less.), skills evaluation, and written test. All sections must be passed to achieve certification.
Required Equipment: A U.S. Coast Guard approved (type V) personal flotation device (PFD), water rescue helmet, gloves, shoes, throw bag, dry suit, and appropriate clothing for water and weather conditions
