COURSE: Fire Academy #2021-33

Course Description: An entry level course for new firefighters that consists of a combination of classroom study, scenarios, and homework that will prepare the firefighter to carry out most fire ground functions under the direct supervision of an Officer, and assuming some leadership roles. The Fire Academy delivers the Commonwealth of Virginia certified Firefighter Level I and Firefighter Level II, Hazardous Materials Operations, MAYDAY! Firefighter Down!, Rural Water Supply, Introduction to Technical Rescue Module I & II. The academy also delivers other classes from the National Incident Management System (100.b, 200.b, 700.a, 800.b), Water Rescue Awareness (PA Fish and Boat Std.), Flashover Recognition, and Vehicle Rescue Level I. Students will meet and exceed Fauquier County Uniform Rank. Course includes required independent study classes. Module testing will occur throughout the course to prepare the student for State of VA testing & ensuring knowledge retention.

 

Prerequisites: Students must be at least 16 years of age in order to complete all aspects of the course. Minors must comply with all Junior Firefighters pre-requisites as defined by Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) standards. All students must be affiliated with a volunteer fire company, Out of County students must have a letter on department letterhead ensuring insurance coverage current volunteer agency.

 

Equipment Required: Structural Firefighting Turnout Gear (Must be in date for any live fire training) Extrication Gloves, Safety Glasses

 

DATES:  First Class is July 12, 2021

 

TIMES: 1830–2230 Mon. & Wed.; 0800-1700 Sat.; 0800-1700 Sun.

Some Saturday's may start at 0700 depending on class and location.
